Louise Korade was born as Louise Duffee in Connecticut. From her earliest years Louise was clearly a “right brain” child: she drew and colored constantly, loved to sing songs with her grandmother, and dreamt vivid dreams at night. Louise liked to make up stories and illustrate them like comics into booklets.

After moving to Long Island, NY, at the age of seven, Louise found opportunities in school to be more involved with music and art. Carrying a sketch book everywhere was routine for her. This involvement expanded by the time she did her last two years of high school in Southern California: singing in choir, working on set design for the theater group, and learning different forms of media in art classes.

Her family moved back to Long Island; Louise went to community college and worked. In 1978 Louise married Douglas Korade and moved to Lexington Park, MD. Raising three children and working at various jobs didn’t always leave time for personal artwork, but Louise enjoyed sharing the pleasures of creativity with her family. It was satisfying to see each child develop his own talents.  Louise became a cake decorator which allowed her to indulge her children’s wishes at each birthday.

Louise’s spiritual life is a large and important part of who she is. She has received artistic inspiration from The Holy Spirit in answer to prayer, and from a great appreciation for God’s Creation. Being able to use art and music in ways that bless other people is one of Louise’s favorite experiences. As a member of Our Father’s House Assembly of God Louise participates in music and prophetic ministry and encourages others to understand their dreams and pursue their artistic talents.

Louise currently takes watercolor painting classes from Gerry Wood of Town Creek. She also paints and takes photos at home and outdoors as nature allows. Her Hollywood home has multiple flower beds which provide plenty of material to photograph.

In 2009, Louise became a USWFA certified water fitness instructor; she is one of several teachers at the Great Mills Swimming Pool. Keeping physically active allows her to overcome aging issues and pursue the creative activities and grandchildren she loves.

Louise sings locally with Encore Chorale, a choir for those 55 and older.

In response to requests about her work, Louise formed “Korade Artistry” as a business. This new endeavor is still in formation; a Facebook page is under construction and other online resources will follow.  Louise’s work can be seen and ordered from www.redbubble.com under the name Louise Korade. Louise can be contacted at lkorade857@gmail.com or 301-373-5887.

This Art Gallery is proof of the power of one woman’s hard work!

Candy Cummings had a vision to create an exhibit space in the Lexington Park Library, which would display the artwork of local artists.

The Library Board agreed that this would enhance  the library experience by exposing library  customers to the beauty and power of original art.

In 2005, the Lexington Park Library Art Gallery was created and through Candy’s hard work  and dedication her vision became a reality.

In 2014, the St. Mary’s County Arts Council agreed to take over the coordination of the Gallery and Candy donated funds to create an Arts Council Library Gallery Fund which will provide for its ongoing support.

THANK YOU to Candy Cummings!

One woman who has truly made a difference  to our library and to our community.
