Having first discovered art at the age of nine, many years were spent developing my interest in illustration, portraiture and fine crafts. As a high school art educator, my 2D experiences were broadened to include textiles, pottery, sculptor, and jewelry along with art therapy.

Leaving teaching behind I spent the 25 years in computer technology, legislative and regulatory affairs, and raising a family.

Upon retiring from BloombergBNA in 2009, I was able to again explore new skills and have concentrating on watercolor and portraiture, studying extensively with renowned teachers at the Art League School in Alexandria and travel seminars.

This exhibit offers a sample of recent works, many plein aire, from travels in the NewEngland coast, Ireland and Iceland as well local scenes and portrait studio work at the Art League.

In creating, I first mentally and emotionally try to capture the essence of the scene or the individual - the light, the color, the form - and work to convey this spirit as I complete the image.

Over the years I have exhibited extensively at the North End Gallery in Leonardtown, as well as group shows in Alexandria,VA and Marblehead, MA . and is currently offered locally Keeping It Local.

I can be reached at katball1026@aol.com for prints, landscape or portrait commission.

This Art Gallery is proof of the power of one woman’s hard work!

Candy Cummings had a vision to create an exhibit space in the Lexington Park Library, which would display the artwork of local artists.

The Library Board agreed that this would enhance  the library experience by exposing library  customers to the beauty and power of original art.

In 2005, the Lexington Park Library Art Gallery was created and through Candy’s hard work  and dedication her vision became a reality.

In 2014, the St. Mary’s County Arts Council agreed to take over the coordination of the Gallery and Candy donated funds to create an Arts Council Library Gallery Fund which will provide for its ongoing support.

THANK YOU to Candy Cummings!

One woman who has truly made a difference  to our library and to our community.
