Welcome to our “Monthly Mini Feature”! We are highlighting different local artisans and crafters who have been busy imagining, creating, dreaming, and doing. During this particularly difficult time please remember our artists and small businesses who support them as they have been and always will be valuable contributors to our quality of life, our economy, and one of the many important of facets of our community.
Our Maker of the month for May 2021 is Kelsey Joyce!
Kelsey is a multi-media artist who specializes in creating fantastical sculptures that are based off of imaginary creatures. Her work often includes large scale sculptures, public artworks, and installations designed to transport the viewer into a different worldly realm. Her signature styles include combinations of eclectic shapes, sizes, and colors seamlessly interwoven to create large scale 3D pieces.
Ms. Joyce is a 2019 graduate of St. Mary’s College of Maryland where she completed a B.A. in Fine Arts/ Studio Art. She has worked as a freelance artist, art instructor, and painting assistant as well as being featured in several different exhibits in the local and northern Maryland areas.
One of Kelsey’s upcoming events is scheduled for Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center where she will be featured from April 26th thru the 30th at the “Artists in Action 2021: Plein Air Edition” event. Visiting artists will have the opportunity to develop new artwork, network with other artists, display and sell their existing work in a gallery exhibit, and share their creative process with visitors.
Kelsey will also have a painting featured in the “Cat’s Meow” exhibit opening on May 1, 2021 at St. Mary’s County Arts Council and running through the month with an Opening Reception on First Friday, May 7th from 5 to 8 PM.
