2023 ARGOS Grants for Individual Artists - Apply Now!

Round 1 is now currently closed as 30 applications have been received.

Note: At this time there are not any plans for future rounds. Be sure to subscribe to our e-newsletter by clicking here for announcements about future opportunities for local artists.

The St. Mary’s County Arts Council (SMCAC) seeks to provide support for independent artists who reside in St. Mary's County and have seen their income drop in recent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

These small, limited grants are mostly unrestricted and can be used for expenses such as paying rent, healthcare costs, buying groceries, paying utility bills, purchasing art supplies, studio rental, marketing costs, or equipment repairs. Grants may not be used for vacation travel or other non-essential expenses.

The Maryland State Arts Council has provided these ARGOS (Arts Relief General Operating Support) funds, and the SMCAC will distribute $15,000 in amounts of $500 per artist (one grant per artist) for a total of 30 grants. If additional funds become available, we will open a second round. These grants will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

There is no deadline for these grants and the application window is open now. The process is rolling and active until funding runs out. The SMCAC grants committee will convene in early September to review the applications received. Approved applicants will receive notification of awards within 30 days and payments within 45 days of approval.
