2023 ART WALK GENERAL EVENT INFO

September 1st, 2023 is a special day in celebration of Downtown Leonardtown’s 10th year as an officially designated Arts & Entertainment District of Maryland!

Art galleries, shops and restaurants throughout Leonardtown will be open late on First Friday and offering specials for the whole weekend.

Our annual "Art Walk" contest event will launch on September 1st. This is an exciting opportunity for visitors to view locally created artwork in a wide variety of media and styles. Fabulous prizes will be awarded to the winners!

Come vote for your three favorite art pieces and you may win a prize as well!

Voting will start on September 1st and end on September 30th. Voting directions for the Art Walk contest are as follows:

  • Stop by any of the businesses featured on the map to pick up a ballot.

  • Get the ballot stamped at three different locations.

  • Select your three favorite pieces of art!

    All art entries are posted online at the link below. You can select the art from ANY of the businesses as long as you visit at least three different locations for your ballot to be stamped.

Submit your ballot at any host business on the map or deliver it directly to the Arts Council at 22660 Washington St. to receive a free small gift!

First Friday, September 1st

  • Contemporary classic flutist, Dr. Ceylon Mitchell, performs in Leonardtown Square from 4 to 5 PM

  • Pop-Up audience participation Drum Circle at St. Mary’s County Arts Council from 5 to 5:30 PM

  • Improvisational Jazz Guitarist, Jan Knutson, performs in Leonardtown Square from 5:30 to 7:30 PM (www.visitleonardtownmd.com/leonardtownmusicfest)

  • Aerial and fire dancing featuring the Vertical Dance Company in LTown Alley from 5:30 to 7:30 PM

  • Meet & Greet w/ podcast host Carla Simpson at St. Mary’s County Arts Council from 5 to 8 PM

    Saturday, September 2nd

  • The 2nd Annual Sidewalk Art Contest from 10 AM to 2:30 PM on Saturday, September 2nd. Register here to participate!

  • Enjoy The Leonardtown Summer Music Festival featuring Phillip Michael Parsons, John Zimmerman, and Girl Crush. Click here for details. There will also be fireworks!
