Artist Statement

Molly Hewitt was born and raised in St. Mary s County.

She has been an artist as long as anyone can remember; lately her favorite medium is watercolor and mixed media. She has a whimsical style that draws its inspiration from the beauty of the surrounding water, nature, and color.

Molly was one of the resident artists at the Chesapeake Public Charter School also located in Lexington Park, and enjoyed teaching some of her mixed media techniques to the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.

Aside from drawing and painting, Molly is a talented graphic artist. She owns her own sign shop, where she creates and installs custom signs for local businesses; she also does boat lettering. Molly is always interested in creating custom art pieces.

Molly lives in St. Mary’s City and enjoys spending her free time with her family.

Show runs
January 15 - March 1, 2018

This Art Gallery is proof of the power of one woman’s hard work!  Candy Cummings had a vision to create an exhibit space in the Lexington Park Library, which would display the artwork of local artists.
The Library Board agreed that this would enhance  the library experience by exposing library customers to the beauty and power of original art.

In 2005, the Lexington Park Library Art Gallery was created and through Candy’s hard work  and dedication her vision became a reality.

In 2014, the St. Mary’s County Arts Council agreed to take over the coordination of the Gallery and Candy donated funds to create an Arts Council Library Gallery Fund which will provide for its ongoing support.

One woman who has truly made a difference  to our library and to our community.
