Candy Cummings' passion for art began at a very young age with her first lessons starting in pre-school. Later in life she pursued art as a full time vocation. Among her many accomplishments, Candy had a show of her art work at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore and her work is part of their permanent collection. She currently has work in the "Hope" show at the Visionary.
Ten years ago, Candy established the Lexington Park Library Art Gallery for the purpose of featuring amateur, student, professional and children artists from the local area. She inspired the "Top It Off Event" held in the Leonardtown Square last year on Pink Friday which celebrated her belief that laughter was far more therapeutic than any other form of treatment.
Although Candy lost her long battle with cancer in November 2014 she was a generous supporter of the Arts and the St. Mary's County Arts Council, and her spirit will live on through the Lexington Park Gallery.
A plaque created by local artists Mary Ida Rolape and Dhyanna Mackenzie will hang permanently in the Gallery to honor the work Candy has done over the years.

This Art Gallery is proof of the power of one woman’s hard work!
Candy Cummings had a vision to create an exhibit space in the Lexington Park Library, which would display the artwork of local artists.
The Library Board agreed that this would enhance the library experience by exposing library customers to the beauty and power of original art.
In 2005, the Lexington Park Library Art Gallery was created and through Candy’s hard work and dedication her vision became a reality.
In 2014, the St. Mary’s County Arts Council agreed to take over the coordination of the Gallery and Candy donated funds to create an Arts Council Library Gallery Fund which will provide for its ongoing support.
THANK YOU to Candy Cummings!
One woman who has truly made a difference to our library and to our community.
