Art Walk 2019 Business Guidelines


Art Walk is designed to promote our local artists as well as bringing new visitors into Leonardtown and into your businesses!

Passing out the art to your business:

  • After we get all of the artists signed up we will then assign them to the businesses that have signed up to participate!

  • We will distribute the artwork with easels, tags, ballots, and a stamp on Wednesday August 28, 2019 between 11am and 3pm. If you already have the artwork in your business, we will just drop off the tags, ballots, and the stamp.

Day of Art Walk, September 6, 2019:

  • Visitors will come into your business, marked on the Art Walk map, to vote on 3 of their favorite art pieces. You will need to stamp their ballot for it to be valid to turn in. Ballots can be dropped off at any participating business. If you do not wish to collect the ballots in your business you can always direct them to turn it in at the St. Mary’s County Arts Council. The voting time will only be from 5PM to 8PM.

  • We highly encourage shops to hold events of their own such as hosting local artists, performing demos, hands-on art activities, book readings, ect. We especially encourage activities held outside in the front of your shop as in the past those have garnered extra attention by those walking by. If you need help finding artists you can always visit our artist registry and reach out to the artists that have registered on there!

  • We ask that you be open during the First Friday hours of 5PM to 8PM on September 6, 2019 and be able to position the art in a visible area, and if you absolutely cannot be open you place the stamp in a easy to access place outside of your business so the visitors can still vote if they really like the artwork.

  • Most pieces of art will be available for purchase and labeled with a price, title, and contact information. The purchaser needs to contact the artist directly and the artist needs to take care of the sale. Your business is not responsible for the sale of the art piece.

The end of the day and the days after:

  • If you did collect the ballots in your business, we would love for you to come by and drop the ballots off before you close or you can call us and we will make a run out to grab them.

  • We would love for you to host the art piece until September 30th!

  • The artists that were assigned to your business will be responsible to pick up their art after September 30, 2019. If they don’t pick it up within a couple of days, please call the St. Mary’s County Arts Council and we will stop by and get it.

  • We will also be by to pick up any left over easels, tags, ballots, and stamps by Wednesday October 9th, 2019.
