![]() Poetry Writing-Sharing your Stories Instructor: Michael S. Glaser Poetry Workshop I: Beginners and Novices 10:30 – 12 noon ages 9- 90 In this workshop we will practice working with some of the basic tools that poets use (enlivened language, metaphors, symbols etc.) and then, using some prompts and writing stems, create a few poems of our own to read and share together. Class Fee: $15 Materials: paper, pen or pencil Poetry Workshop II: Advanced – for experienced writers 1:30pm - 3:30pm Ages 16 – 100 This workshop will focus on two aspects of the writing process: 1) Using our stories /experiences as material for writing poems; and 2) Revision as the art of crafting language, using one’s authentic voice and “fine tuning” the poem. Participants will be encouraged to begin some new poems during our time together and we will also spend time workshopping /revising poems that participants bring with them (10 copies, please!) Michael S. Glaser Biography
Michael S. Glaser is a Professor Emeritus at St. Mary’s College of Maryland and was Poet Laureate of Maryland from 2004-2009. The recipient of the Homer Dodge Endowed Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the Columbia Merit Award for service to poetry, he served as a Maryland State Arts Council poet-in-the-schools for over 25 years and is widely sought as a speaker and workshop leader. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Maryland Humanities Council. Glaser has edited three anthologies and published over 500 individual poems as well as eight collections of his poetry.
